Sazerac 18-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey (2023 Release)

This is the 2023 release of Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye, a key component of the annual Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. This whiskey is one of the oldest American rye expressions available.

The barrels for this specific release were filled between the fall of 2004 and the spring of 2005. They were subsequently aged in Warehouses K, L, and M at the Buffalo Trace Distillery before being selected for this batch. The final product is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV).

The Sazerac name originates from the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, credited with popularizing the Sazerac cocktail in the 1800s. This bottling is a tribute to that history.

A mainstay of the annual series, Sazerac 18 year old doesn’t vary too much year to year, keeping the same age, low-rye mashbill, and proof. That said, the 2024 release finds a way to thrill, packing fresh spicy grain notes on the nose alongside eucalyptus, ripe cherries, and grape jelly. The palate is softer, and tantalizes with dark chocolate, tobacco ash, oak spice, and blueberries. A never-ending finish brings out the best of this rye, beautifully melding all the notes that came before.

For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
