Hibiki

Hibiki, meaning "resonance", is Suntory's flagship blended whisky, marrying malt from Yamazaki and Hakushu with Chita grain whisky. Its 24-faceted decanter represents the 24 seasons of the traditional Japanese calendar. Widely considered the pinnacle of the blender's art in Japan, Hibiki is as celebrated for harmony and elegance as single malts are for power.

Harmony is the accessible, no-age-statement expression: floral, honeyed, and silky. The 17, discontinued in 2018, deepens into dried fruit and Mizunara spice. The 21 is among the most awarded blends on earth, and the 30 is a rare, luxurious statement piece. Every age-stated Hibiki is now scarce, with the 17 and 21 especially collectible.

Suntory discontinued Hibiki 17 in 2018 after demand for aged Japanese whisky outpaced the mature stocks available for blending. Its age statement, distinctive decanter, limited remaining supply, and appearance in Lost in Translation have made it a favorite among Japanese whisky collectors. It's one of the most giftable whiskies in the world: the faceted bottle is beautiful before it's even opened, the liquid is approachable enough for newer whisky drinkers, and the Japanese craftsmanship story lands with everyone. Harmony suits most occasions, while the 21 or a discontinued 17 turns a gift into an heirloom.

However you like, but it shines two ways: neat in a tulip glass to appreciate the blend's layering, or in a traditional Japanese highball with sparkling water and plenty of ice, which is how it's most often enjoyed in Tokyo. Its balance means it never needs mixers to hide behind.
