The 10 year old Handmade Bourbon is one of the original Old Rip Van Winkle brands, first bottled by Julian Van Winkle III in 1980s. Bottled at 107 proof, featuring the older “squat” bottle design used prior to the mid-2000s packaging update. It was released under the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery name, although by this time, all production—including distillation, aging, and bottling—was handled at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. This transition followed the 2002 joint venture between the Van Winkle family and the Sazerac Company. The bourbon is a wheated recipe, aged for 10 years, and does not contain Stitzel-Weller distillate. It is part of the early Frankfort-era Van Winkle releases and is considered collectible due to its discontinued packaging and vintage date.
