Tequila Ocho Reposado Tequila Barrel Proof 2024
Collectors of high-end American whiskey should prepare for a one-two punch. Buffalo Trace is once again expanding the Weller line with two new, ultra-premium expressions. Along with the lineup’s first wheat whiskey — an 18-year-old bottling exclusive to travel retail — the distillery has also announced the second edition of its rare Weller Millennium release.
Weller 18 Year Old is the first wheat whiskey in the modern Weller lineup, and it's also the first dedicated, retail-ready wheat whiskey we’ve seen from Buffalo Trace. Unlike bourbon, where corn is the primary grain, wheat whiskey must contain at least 51% wheat. While Buffalo Trace doesn’t generally disclose its mash bills, this wheat whiskey is made from a different recipe than the distillery’s well-known wheated bourbon (used for both the Weller and Pappy Van Winkle brands). The 18-year-old whiskey is the oldest age-stated release in the Weller line, bottled at 90 proof.
“Weller 18 Year Old is the culmination of curiosity, tradition, and time,” says Harlen Wheatley, Buffalo Trace’s master distiller, in a press release. “Wheat has a softness that can sometimes get lost with age, but here, it’s evolved into something rich and beautifully expressive. We’re extremely proud of the resulting whiskey, which showcases the versatility and potential of a wheat-forward mashbill.”
