Palari Faro 2008 750ml
Palari is a wine producer located in Messina on the island of Sicily. Since 2005, the estate has been producing traditional Faro DOC wines from native varieties like Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Acitana, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera and Tignolino.
Faro is an Italian wine DOC for red wine from the extreme eastern corner of Sicily, created in 1976. Its geographical center is the city of Messina, the third city of Sicily and the administrative center of the eponymous province.
Faro Rosso is the only wine permitted, and is made from a trio of grape varieties very traditional in this part of Sicily. Nerello Mascalese must make up 45-60 percent of the blend, with Nerello Cappuccio accounting for 15-30 percent. A dash (5-10 percent) of Nocera is obligatory, while Galioppo, Nero d'Avola and/or Sangiovese can make up a maximum of 15 percent.

The 2008 Faro Palari is the vintage currently on the market. The 2008 vintage in the Straits of Messina is similar to 2005 in terms of its mild climate and balanced weather. A good amount of rain and cool night temperatures during harvest set the conditions for bright aromatic intensity. This wine shows a beautiful quality of fruit with small red berries and a solid dose of ripe peach. Balsam herbs and dried rosemary appear on the fringe. As the wine evolves in the glass, it begins to show more leather and black licorice. One of the most noticeable aspects of this wine is its balanced acidity. The blend is 50% Nerello Mascalese, 20% Nerello Cappuccio, 20% Nocera and 10% other indigenous grapes. Drink 2016-2032. Salvatore Geraci makes one of the icon wines of southern Italy: Faro Palari. An architect by training, this charismatic Sicilian from Messina approaches every detail with extreme precision, from the health of each of his vines to the ambitious restoration of his family manor into a modern winery and tasting room. The magic of his wine, however, is his vineyard.

The largely unexplored Faro denomination in the northern point of Sicily is producing some of the island's best work. The promising Nocera grape variety is used here and vintner Salvatore Geraci is one of its biggest proponents. This blended red is finely embroidered with subtle notes of forest berry, cassis, leather and spice.

Rich and decadent wine with spice, foie gras, meat, ripe fruit. Full body, with round tannins, and a ripe and delicious finish.
