Odfjell Orzada Carignan
Odfjell Orzada Carignan is an elegant mature wine with complex aromas of leather, licorice and mushrooms. Vanilla and blackcurrant on the palate with ripe tannins giving a long complex finish.
The grapes were hand-picked using 400kg bins and were not crushed on reception to the winery; the clusters were only destemmed. The whole berries had five to six days of cold maceration at 14°C prior to fermentation and 15 to 20 days of maceration at 25ºC after fermentation. Selected yeasts were used during the fermentation, which took place in small tanks from 10,000 to 15.000 liters. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation took place in barrels. Odfjell’s stunning gravity flow winery minimizes the need to pump or agitate the juice throughout the winemaking process, gravity flow helps preserve the natural subtleties of the finished wine. It is aged in oak for 12 months: 21% in new French oak barrels, 10% in new American barrels and 69% in two-year-old barrels.
