100 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"For my money (and I have some in the cellar), the 1998 Haut-Brion is the finest vintage from this estate between 1989 and 2000, surpassing the 1990. While it remains decidedly youthful at age 25, it is beginning to stir, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, cigar wrapper, loamy soil, pencil shavings and burning embers. Medium-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's layered and elegant, with refined tannins, lively acids and a long, perfumed finish. Exemplifying the ideal of intensity without weight, it enjoys a slight edge over La Mission Haut-Brion in this banner year for both properties."

Château Haut-Brion is one of the five First Growth wines of Bordeaux, and the only one from Graves. Located on two hillocks gravel over clay and sand in Pessac for a classic Graves terroir. It consists of 51 hectares of mostly red varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot). It is the oldest wine estate in Bordeaux and was even served to Charles II! The estate is now owned and lovingly managed by the Dillon family, the royal family of Luxembourg. Long associated with technical innovation in Bordeaux, Haut-Brion was an early adopter of stainless-steel fermentation vats in the 1960s while retaining traditional élevage in French oak. The 1998 vintage is one of the better regarded Left Bank examples from a year often discussed for its stronger Right Bank results.

This is paramount to our business. We source our products exclusively from reputable, licensed importers, distributors, wine brokers, and world-renowned auction houses such as Sotheby's and Christie's. We also acquire bottles from select private collections where clear and documented provenance is provided, ensuring a verifiable history for our finest items.

Yes, in most cases, the photograph on the product page is of the specific bottle for sale. If we have multiple quantities of the same item, the photo represents the general condition of all bottles under that SKU. Any significant condition issues, such as low ullage or bin-stained labels, will be clearly noted in the product description. We are happy to provide additional high-resolution images upon request-please contact us.

We use premium, industry-standard materials to protect every shipment. Depending on the bottle and destination, we use a combination of insulated foam box inserts, custom-fit air column bags, and heavy-weight cardboard shippers to prevent damage. For added peace of mind, we offer shipping protection against loss or damage at checkout through OrderProtection.com.

For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.

We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. We also offer flexible payment options through Shop Pay Installments and Sezzle. For customers interested in using cryptocurrency, we accept BTC, ETH, XRP, USDC, and more through Coinbase Commerce.
