Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Chaignots 2023
"Chaignots" comes from the word "Chasne", old French for "chêne" (oak), as there were originally oak trees in this area. Georges Mugneret purchased the parcel in 1971. Brown limestone soil with very little clay in this sloping and pebbly parcel east-facing. Excellent drainage.
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a French producer of high-quality Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits, best known for wines made from the most sought-after vineyards in Burgundy.
The domaine was created in 1933 after the marriage of André Mugneret to Jeanne Gibourg of the established Vosne-Romanée Gibourg family. Their son, Georges Mugneret, an ophthalmologist, extended his family's vineyard holdings by buying small plots of land in the 1950s. He began bottling these wines with his own label, Dr Georges Mugneret. The two domaines came together in 2009 under the name of Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg.
Vosne-Romanée is a hallowed commune in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, combining a number of famous and much-prized grand and premier cru vineyards with a raft of stellar names and a captivating history.
The small commune in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits district is well-known its elegantly balanced Pinot Noir. Originally named just Vosne, the village took the suffix Romanée in 1866 in honor of its most prized vineyard, La Romanée (most communes along the Côte d'Or did this between the mid 19th and early 20th Centuries).
