A.H. Hirsch Reserve 1974 16 Year Old is one of the defining bottles of collectible American whiskey. Distilled in the spring of 1974 at Pennsylvania’s historic Pennco Distillery, later known as Michter’s, it came from a legendary parcel of approximately 400 barrels commissioned by Adolph H. Hirsch.

This early 1990s Blue Wax release was bottled by Julian Van Winkle III’s Commonwealth Distillery Company at 91.6 proof. Bottled only in small quantities as orders were received, the 1974 whiskey appeared in several distinct presentations over the years; this blue-wax edition is regarded as one of the earliest releases to carry the 16-year age statement.

With its blue wax closure, vintage label and extraordinarily limited production history, this is far more than an old bottle of bourbon. It is a cornerstone of modern American whiskey collecting and one of the most coveted surviving expressions from the original Pennsylvania-distilled A.H. Hirsch stock.
