Wine Spectator
“Well-built, with a core of dense plum paste, raspberry reduction and melted red licorice notes framed by roasted apple wood accents and backed by juicy, brambly grip on the finish. Youthfully vibrant and should cellar well in the midterm. Best from 2021 through 2031. 15,000 cases made.”
Highlights
Chateau Carbonnieux Rouge Pessac-Leognan 2021
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2021 Carbonnieux reveals warm black and red plums, blackcurrants and cigar box scents with a waft of crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, fine-grained and with great freshness, it delivers a minerally finish.
Critical Acclaim
94 Wine Enthusiast
Owned by the Perrin family, this grand estate has produced an impeccable, impressive wine. Rich tannins and dense black fruits are marked by ripe, juicy acidity and spice from the wood aging. It needs aging, drink from 2028.
90 Decanter
Supple and friendly, textured and serious. Tannins are a little dry and raspy, just giving some austerity on the mid palate and finish but I like the weight and sense of drive. Really not a bad effort with high acidity, good juiciness mixed with dried herbs and Cabernet aspects and licks of oak and dark chocolate on the finish suggesting more time to age and settle. Nice construction and potential.
