Nikka Japanese Whiskey

View Full Description [+ Read More]

Nikka is a Japanese whisky producer founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who trained in Scotland before establishing distilleries at Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi prefecture. The house uses both pot stills and Coffey continuous stills, the latter producing distinctively fruity, grain-forward expressions like Coffey Malt and Coffey Grain that diverge sharply from typical column-still output. Yoichi Single Malt reflects Hokkaido's cool, coastal climate with peat and robust structure, while Taketsuru Pure Malt blends distillates from both sites. Nikka Days represents the lighter, more approachable end of the range, whereas Nikka From The Barrel, bottled near cask strength at 51.4% ABV, and the ornate Gold Metallic Samurai occupy the upper tier of the portfolio.
