    Frequently asked questions

    What is Blanton's Takara?

Takara Shuzo is the Japanese company that has owned the Blanton's brand since acquiring Age International in 1992, and the Takara editions, most famously Takara Red and Takara Black, are Blanton's bottlings produced for the Japanese market. For US collectors, they're legitimate international variants of the single barrel icon, distinct from anything sold domestically.

How do Takara Red and Takara Black differ from US Blanton's?

Takara Red is bottled around the strength of the US Original but with its own barrel selections and presentation, while Takara Black is a softer, lower-proof expression unique to Japan. Both carry the classic horse-and-jockey stopper and single barrel details, and neither is officially distributed in the US, which drives their collectibility.

Are Japanese-market Blanton's bottles legal to buy in the US?

Yes. Import editions sourced through legitimate channels can be sold by licensed retailers like Flask, which is precisely how collectors here complete their Blanton's sets. Each listing details the edition, proof, and condition, and every order ships with Route protection included.

Why do collectors chase the international Blanton's editions?

Because the full Blanton's family only exists across borders: Gold and Straight From The Barrel were long export-only, and the Takara editions never left Japan officially. Completing the international set, each with its own barrel details and stopper letters, is one of bourbon collecting's most satisfying projects.

Do Takara editions have the collectible stopper letters too?

They do. Takara bottlings carry the same horse-and-jockey stoppers, so bottles can contribute to the eight-letter B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S set while adding editions most US collectors have never seen in person. Where visible, our listings note stopper and barrel details for collectors chasing specifics.
