Gabriel & Andreu Cognac Fins Bois Lot 2 1997
A separate arm of Cognac Ferrand, Gabriel & Associes was created specifically to offer cognacs that are unblended, coming from a single estate or chateau. As with all cognacs produced under the Ferrand empire, the emphasis is on producing individual, high quality artisan cognacs in the traditional methods that date back many decades. The concept behind Cognac Gabriel & Associés is simple – to provide the facilities and opportunity small cognac growers to produce their own product and allow it to be marketed and sold. By working with vineyard owners throughout the whole region of Cognac and collaborating closely with individual producers, it has been possible for Ferrand to produce very distinct and unique cognacs from each of the growing regions within the area.
Although Cognac G&A is a relatively new concept, the house of Ferrand has a history dating back hundreds of years. When Ferrand was set up as a modern business, it was by a man who was literally born into the wine making industry - Alexandre Gabriel. His years of experience and knowledge have been passed down through the years to the expertise that is tantamount in producing the cognac that we experience today.
Cognac Fins Bois is Cognac made from grapes grown in the cru of that name.
The Fins Bois vineyards form a wide belt around the town of Cagnac, biased heavily towards the north-east, where it spans some 50km (30 miles). It reaches from Saint-Jean-d'Angely in the north-west to Villebois-Lavalette in the south - a distance of over 130km (80 miles).
The total area qualifying for the title is a vast 235,000 hectares (580,000 acres) although, as with most of the outlying Cognac regions, only a small fraction of this is planted to vine. Approximately 15 percent of the land is given over to vineyard used for Cognac production, although this still provides an annual output which is double that of Petite Champagne.
