Puntiagudo Agave Spirit Nazario Salas Pulquero 750ml
This rare small batch mezcal was crafted in San Miguel Atlapulco in the semi arid highlands of the Mixteca Poblana in Puebla, where intense daytime heat and cool nights create demanding conditions for agave cultivation. Long overlooked by the wider mezcal world, this rugged region produces spirits of striking authenticity. Made by Maestro Nazario Salas, a multiple gold medal recipient at Mexico’s most respected spirits competitions, this bottling reflects the resilience and devotion of mezcaleros who have preserved ancestral traditions against all odds. The batch was produced from agave Mapisaga, a variety known for its immense size and complex sugar development, often reaching three to four meters at maturity. The agaves were cultivated for more than twelve years in Tectzoyocan, with just nineteen fully mature plants selected for harvest on March 21, 2024, yielding 2,870 kilos of piñas. The agave heads were roasted for five days in a traditional conical earthen oven fired with local eucalyptus wood, then processed using a semi industrial shredder to preserve traditional character. Fermentation took place in open air oak vats with pure well water and indigenous yeasts over seven days, followed by distillation on April 17, 2024, in a 400 liter copper alembic still. The entire batch yielded only 242 liters, most shared locally, with just 138 bottles released.
