Highlights
Menetou-Salon sits just southwest of Sancerre, sharing the same Kimmedgian limestone soils, the same cool continental climate and same grape- Sauvignon Blanc- but without the famous name attached to the price tag. That's the open secret wine lovers have been quietly exploiting for years, and Louis Millet is one of the best reason to do it.
The Louis Millet label comes from Domaine La Gemiere, a family estate in Crezancy-en-Sencerre run by brothers Sebastien and Nicolas Millet. Their father Daniel built the cellar in 1981 on a piece of land they called "La Gamiere,"starting with just 8 hectares. Today the domaine covers 19 hectares, farmed with Terra Vitis and HVE3 sustainable certification- and the name "Louis Miller" is already reserved for the next generation waiting in the wings.
The Menetou=Salon Blanc is vinified entirely in stainless steel, with no oak influence, so what you're tasting in the terroir straight- the citrusy tension and chalky mineral backbone that Kimmeridgian limestone, imparts to Sauvignon Blanc in this pocket of the Loire.
Pale yellow with silver glints. The nose is vivid and expensive- citrus zest, grapefruit, and lime lead, followed by white flowers and cool mineral steak.
On the palate, the wine is brisk and focused, with a lively acidity that carries ripe citrus fruit through to a clean, mineral-driven finish. Elegant floral notes linger alongside the characteristics chalky tension of the eppellation. Fresh, precise and built for the table.
