“The texture is impressive, with its subtle chewiness supporting blackberry pate de fruit, violet and light mesquite notes. Elements of loam and earthy leafiness bring a savory dimension alongside floral violet and smoke highlights. Charred mesquite marks the elegant and suave finish. Well-done. Mourvedre, Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2032. 100 cases imported.”
Highlights
Domaines Ott Chateau Romassan Bandol Rouge 2020
Attractive garnet-red hue with ruby tints. Minty nose of morello cherries and blueberries with notes of lightly toasted violets. Silky mouthfeel on a very fresh palate. Smooth, well-structured tannins, aromas of ripe black fruit and a hint of liquorice on the finish.
Hand-harvested grapes are cooled overnight. The grapes are gravity-fed into concrete tanks for maceration. Daily pumping of the juice over the pomace cap. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, followed by 18 to 24 months in bottle—well beyond the Bandol appellation's regulations.
Domaines Ott was founded in 1896 by Alsatian engineer Marcel Ott. Today, the wineries are owned and managed by Champagne Louis Roederer, producing some of the world’s most prestigious wines. These wines are made at three distinctively different estates in two different appellations: Château Romassan (Bandol), Clos Mireille, and Château de Selle (both Côtes de Provence).
