The 2017 Château Suau Sauternes has earned its place in The World of Fine Wine’s handpicked collection of tasting notes, featuring insights from the world’s foremost wine authorities. Explore in-depth commentary from wine experts Andrew Jefford and Simon Field on Château Suau Sauternes - an internationally acclaimed sweet white from Bordeaux.
Located northeast of the Barsac appellation, not far from where the rivers Ciron and Garonne meet, the château takes its name from Elie de Suau, councillor and officer of the Bordeaux Parliament who owned it in the 17th century.
Château Suau which has long been in the hands of the Lur Saluces, is now owned by the Biarnès family. In 2015, the running of the vineyard was entrusted to Olivier Bernard and in his team from Domaine de Chevalier (Grand Cru Classé de Graves).
The beautiful complexity of Noble Rot! This 2017 vintage has produced white wines of great quality, perfectly balanced. “The noble rot” that developed on these magnificent fruits, gave a great concentration and an exceptional aromatic complexity.
This Château Suau 2017 has an already complex bouquet: the fruity freshness of Semillon gives flowery notes of acacia flower enveloping roasted aromas of ripe apricots, quince, dried fig, cinnamon and black tea. In the mouth, a creamy, rich and refined liquor instantly invades the palate without ever being excessive or heavy.
On the contrary, a sweet feeling of freshness and exotic taste reminiscent of the bouquet, persist for a long time. This rich, pure and subtle wine is perfectly wrapped in beautiful acidity. Balanced, fresh and dense, this wine is destined to long aging.
