Greg Metze spent nearly four decades as master distiller at the famed Indiana distillery whose whiskey filled countless celebrated brands, arguably shaping more American whiskey than anyone of his era. At Old Elk in Colorado he finally put his own name on the label, which is why enthusiasts pay attention.

Old Elk's signature mashbill uses an unusually high proportion of malted barley, four times a typical bourbon's, delivering a rounder, sweeter, biscuity depth. Combined with the house's patient slow-cut proofing, which adds water gradually over weeks rather than at once, the result is remarkably smooth for its strength.
