Arnaldo Rivera Barolo Vignarionda 2019

Arnaldo Rivera wines are the result of a partnership between Terre del Barolo winery and a number of its growers with the aim of producing the regions best grapes and wines. The vineyards of origin are among the most prestigious on the Langhe hills. They are ultimate expression of expertise and craftsmanship, where the purity of the single varietal is at the absolute pinnacle, testing to the unmistakable identity of Piedmont's wines.

Starting from the 2013 vintage, the 'Arnaldo Rivera' wines are the result of an agreement between the winery and several of its growers. This label is a unique, new journey through the eleven villages and native varietals in the Barolo winegrowing area, from the vineyard management, to the vinification techniques and woods used it is truly the wines and the land they come from that speak for themselves.

History: Arnaldo Rivera was born on December 13th, 1919 in Castiglione Falletto, a small village at the heart of the historic Barolo winegrowing area. He was a local primary school teacher, mayor of his village for 36 years, and founder in 1958 of the Terre del Barolo winery. He lived through the hard times of the war in the front line, as well as the days of the liberation. He and his wife Ester Rinaldi were not blessed with children. Arnaldo Rivera passed away on January 10th, 1987. This project was created by the growers and the winery in honor of this great man.

Rich ruby with pronounced garnet rim. Opens with emphatic earthy notes, light barrel tone, dark caramel, some dried plums and some leather. Shows plenty of grippy tannin on the palate, woven into sweet texture, savoury.

Spiced cherries, raspberry bush, dried sage, ground spices and nutmeg. Medium- to full-bodied with super fine, polished tannins that are compact and seamless. Firm with fresh red berry crunchiness in the middle. Refined and lingering. Power with delicacy. Better after 2025.

Terre del Barolo is a cooperative in Langhe, today focused on different MGAs produced under the Arnaldo Rivera brand. Graphite, smoky woodland and an almost-cola scent from the oak are allied to earthy strawberry and bitter orange notes. The attack is full of sucrosity, with very well handled refined, polished tannins. The wine is extracted, with a great mid-palate and a ripe and warming finish. A modern style but with Pinot-like elegance. High quality winemaking here.

With fruit from Serralunga d’Alba, the 2019 Barolo Vignarionda is a wine of power and structure that accurately reflects the personality of this village. There are layers of black fruit, dark cherry, metallic ore, rust and grilled rosemary. All the fruit for this wine comes from a single site with sunny southern exposures at 330 meters in elevation. The vines were planted in 2003, and only 3,400 bottles were made this vintage.
