Tempranillo is a relatively thick-skinned red grape with a high anthocyanin count that makes for deep-colored red wines with moderate tannins and, where rosé is produced from the variety, generally quite deeply-hued, pink colors.

The 2017 Tempranillo la Paciencia shows a solid ruby core and wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, wild strawberry, baked earth and leather. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a firm dustiness similar to hot river rocks, then shows lifting, fine-grained tannins that complete the complex yet balanced structure. The Tempranillo ends with an elegant, lingering finish, showing crushed violets and soft savory spiciness before swaying back to expressive fruit tones.

Blueberry, dark raspberry, high-toned exotic spices, tree bark, mocha, licorice and violet on the nose; a very aromatic Tempranillo. Dark, smooth and intensely flavored, in a distinctly suave, sappy vein, hinting at lurking power. Seems a bit riper and more accessible than the 2016 version, but not necessarily more complex or floral. Still quite firm but not hard, finishing with noteworthy saline length and firm but evenly distributed tannins. This silky but structured Tempranillo maintains a light touch with aeration.
