Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet is an appellation in the southern half of the France's Rhône valley. Its 300 hectares (740 acres) of vineyards produce chiefly red wines. These are full-bodied with floral and dried fruit aromas. Whites account for about 10 percent of production.

Reds and rosés must include at least 40 percent Grenache, and a minimum 25 percent of Syrah and/or Mourvèdre. In the rosés the local white varieties may account for up to 20 percent. Eighty percent of any white blend must be comprised of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Marsanne, Roussanne, Bourboulenc and/or Viognier.

The climate in Sablet is strict Mediterranean type, with long, hot summers. This gives the excellent potential for achieving fully ripe grapes.

Mourvèdre certainly requires a hot, dry climate to fully ripen, as does Grenache, to a slightly less extreme degree. Both are rarely found north of Montélimar, which marks the boundary between the northern Rhône and the hotter south. Syrah, on the other hand, prefers the cooler spots that Sablet has to offer, in the sheltered areas on the leeward side of the hills.
