1992 Longmorn 26 year Signatory Vintage
Signatory Vintage is a leading Scottish independent bottler of single malt and single grain whisky. Andrew and Brian Symington started the business in 1988 and built their own bottling plant in Edinburgh in the early 1990s.
The name derives from an idea, never implemented, to have each release endorsed by a celebrity signature. In 2002 Andrew Symington bought the Edradour distillery in Perthshire from Pernod Ricard, and all operations were moved to that location.
There are regular new releases and the range at any one time usually runs to around 50 whiskies, organized into various collections. Almost all are year-dated, single-cask bottlings.
The standard range offers whiskies up to 20 years old bottled at 43 percent ABV (or 86-proof – hence the range is often referred to as the "86-proof collection"), while the Cask Strength Collection (roughly between 50 and 60 percent ABV) features whiskies up to 35 years old.
The third of the principal single malt groups is the Un-chill filtered Collection (normally around 46 percent ABV). Chill-filtering is widely used to control cloudiness by removing the majority of fats and oils found naturally in the malt; this is also reputed to strip the whisky of some of its flavors.
Other labels include Silent Stills releases from closed distilleries and the Single Grain Collection. Single-grain whisky also appears as part of the Cask Strength Collection.
The company has also marketed other brands such as Scottish Wildlife, Dun Eideann, and Prestonfield, named after the hotel in which the Symington brothers previously worked.
