Perhaps the most famous Italian bitter liqueur, bright red and flavored with a secret blend herbs. An institution in mainland Europe, it's most often served simply with soda, the classic Camparisoda, as well as being a key ingredient in cocktails such as the Negroni, Americano, and countless others. 

Traditionally, the coloring would coming from the use of cochineal insects. As cocktail culture was on the rise in the early 20th century, Campari worked its red magic into two classic cocktails - the Americano and the Negroni - cementing its placement on bars all over the world.

Sometime in the 2000s, the recipe was changed. The natural carmine coloring was replaced with an artificial die, much to the chagrin of vintage Campari fans across the globe. The older, naturally colored (now) vintage Campari bottles are described as being much deeper, richer, and balanced in flavor than the current offering.
