A Macallan 18 year old exclusively matured in the finest Sherry oak casks from a 1978 distillation and originally released in 1996 for the US market
When Macallan took over their bottling in 1980, they toyed for a few releases with more advanced age-statements of 17 and 18 years old. The 18 was deemed the optimum maturation, and the official 18 year old was launched in 1984. It is now an absolute classic of the whisky world.
