Les Heritiers Saint Genys Mercurey Rouge 1er Cru Clos Marcilly Monopole 2020
This is bitter cherry Mercurey at its best. A bright and very pretty nose revealing spicy, ripe cherry fruit aromas and a hint of savouryness. The palate is similarly fragrant and moreish with robust tannins and long, intense finish.
From a single clos (and the only Monopole) within the most prestigious vineyards of Mercurey, restored by Patrice de Jeu to its full glory. Fully enclosed by a stone wall, the 60 year old vines are protected from severe frosts while being nourished by its own 'source' which sits below the clay-limestone soils. The Pinot Noir is harvested by hand, with each bunch selected carefully before picking, and placed into small drilled boxes to avoid maceration. Fully destemmed before pressing, this wine is matured in a combination of new but mainly old oak barrels for up to 13 months.

Deep, cherry nose with a slew of spicy notes and hints of smoke and balsamic vinegar. Super balance of concentrated fruit and fine tannins on the generous palate, the acidity lifting the ample body beautifully at the very long, intense and focused finish. From grapes that were sustainably grown, with no use of herbicides.
