Vik Red Blend Millahue Cachapoal Valley 2021
This red wine from Chile is complex and fragrant, with aromas of blackcurrant, olive, cocoa and cigar Wooden box. The notes of redcurrant and tomato leaf in Cabernet – Sauvignon and Franc – betray the Chilean origin of this grand cru. It is a precise, nuanced wine, with silky tannins and an endless finish. The history of the estate dates back to 2004 when the wealthy couple Alex and Carrie Vik selected this dream terroir to produce a world-class wine. The first vintage came out in 2009!
Critical Acclaim
100 James Suckling
Intense graphite with fresh lavender, thyme, rosemary and blackcurrant notes. Hints of decadence. Iodine and mussel undertones. Full-bodied with superb intensity and silky tannins that grow on the palate, showing great length that goes on for minutes. Truly great depth. 77% cabernet franc and 23% cabernet sauvignon. Best ever.

The 2021 Vik is a blend of 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from Millahue in the Cachapoal Valley. Aged for 26 months in barrels and 10% in amphorae, this dark garnet wine reveals aromas of blackberry and raspberry, complemented by notes of ash, baldo, , bay leaf and undergrowth, all set against a backdrop of cedar. On the palate, it is dry, delicate, and finely grained, with a juicy and vibrant mouthfeel that departs from the oxidative, tired style of the past. With the blend now excluding Carménère and increasing the proportion of Franc, the wine has shed its previous clingy and bold character. The 2021 vintage is precise, slightly compact and absolutely flavorful. Drink: 2026-2038.
