Tasting Notes
The 2021 Screaming Eagle captivates with its dark, savory, and explosive profile that masterfully marries power and finesse. In the glass, it displays an intense, opaque hue that entices with seductive aromas of dark cherries, ripe plums, and blackberries, interwoven with nuances of mocha, grilled herbs, and leather. On the palate, it delivers a symphony of flavors dominated by pure cassis and dark fruits, accompanied by classic graphite and lead pencil notes, all enhanced by a beautiful sense of minerality. The finish is long and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and sophistication.

Winery Background
Screaming Eagle remains one of Napa Valley's smallest and most prestigious wineries. The small stone winery is perched on a rocky hillside in the Oakville Appellation, overlooking vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. With David Abreu managing the vineyards, Nick Gislason (formerly of Harlan Estate) as winemaker, and Michel Rolland consulting, this estate continues to produce some of the most sought-after wines in Napa Valley
Wine Composition
The 2021 vintage is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by approximately 18% Merlot and smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc. This exceptional wine is aged in 65% new French oak barrels for almost two years, allowing it to develop its characteristic complexity and depth1. With an alcohol content of 14.8%, it offers a perfect balance of power and elegance.
Cellaring Potential
While approachable now, this wine will truly hit its stride about 7-8 years after release and has a drinking window of 2028-2050. The natural concentration of this drought vintage comes through loud and clear, with huge, youthful tannins reinforcing the wine's potent feel. Collectors should note that annual production is approximately 500 cases, with most wine sold directly to consumers via a mailing list.
