Renzo Seghesio Roero Arneis San Bernardino 2022
The 2022 Renzo Seghesio Roero Arneis is flavorful, fresh, mineraly and delicate, with a balanced body and a complex bouquet of peach, apricot, citrus, and apple.
Renzo Seghesio has worn many hats: farmer and winemaker, cartographer, and former mayor of Monforte d’Alba. After studying winemaking in Alba, returning to Monforte in the 1960s, and founding his own winery, he has dedicated himself to the single goal of growing and selecting the best possible fruit from the unique terroir of his family’s parcels.
Since 1968 Renzo has gone from making his first wine in his family’s garage to releasing over 70,000 bottles a year from the grapes of the family estates, currently spanning over 14 hectares (about 34.5 acres) of land. Arneis is an Italian white-wine grape variety originating from Piedmont, Italy. It is most commonly found in the hills of the Roero, northwest of Alba, where it is part of the white Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) wines of Roero. It can also be used to produce DOC wines in Langhe. Arneis (literally: little rascal, in Piemontese) is so called because it is regarded as a somewhat difficult variety to grow. It is a crisp and floral varietal, and has been grown for centuries in the region. The white wines made from the Arneis grape tend to be dry and full bodied with notes of pears and apricots.
