Pierre Henri Gadais Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie 2022
Delicately fruity and floral holds the sip with an acidic and mineral shoulder. The impact of wood is well balanced and does not overpower the delicacy of the palate.
Pierre-Henri Gadais comes from two families of winemakers, in the Sancerre and Muscadet. After his studies in the sector he expanded his experiences in the areas of Burgundy, Bordeaux, Muscadet, Sancerre, Switzerland and Australia. 2016 is the year of the return and the first self-winemaking, taking direct management of a vineyard in the village of La Petiere, just 9 hectares but with great potential, with plants of over 50 years of age. From 2017, the conversion to organic begins, respecting the nearby Cantrie nature reserve.
The vineyard is surrounded by the Sevre and Maine rivers, creating a particular protected microclimate. The soil rich in pebbles forces the roots to look for water in depth, where the sedimentary part enriches the minerality.
After harvesting, which is done at the time of perfect grape ripeness, there is direct pressing and gravity falling of the must, which arrives directly into the underground tanks, without any contact with oxygen thanks to the use of inert gases. In the cellar, sulfur dioxide is reduced to a minimum, and the must remains sur lie until bottling. Half of the mass is scheduled to be aged in first-passage wood.
