Knockando Limited Edition 25 Year Old Bottled 2011

Knockando is a whisky distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland. The name comes from Gaelic, which directly translates as "little black hill", a possible tribute to the nearby hills.

Every year the distillery releases new vintages, and the standard range includes a 12-year-old, 15-year-old, 18-year-old, 21-year-old and 25-year-old. Roughly 10 percent of Knockando's whiskies are classed as single malt, the rest being blended whiskies; J&B uses Knockando whisky as an integral part of its blend. The single malt is not consumed as much within the UK and the US but is one of Diageo's key products in France and Spain.

Production is small, with the distillery making only 1.3 million liters from the four-pot stills – two wash and two-spirit – it uses. The distillery also has five warehouses, some dunnage and some racked, where the whiskies are housed in both oak and Sherry casks.

The distillery was founded by John Tytler Thompson in 1898, as part of the whisky boom that occurred in the 19th Century, with the building was designed by architect Charles Doig. Unlike many of the distilleries, which were forced to close for indefinite amounts of time at various points in the 1900s, Knockando only had brief moments of closure, most notably from 1899 to 1904, but it was back up and running once the gin producers W & A Gilby took ownership.

The distillery has changed hands several times, and it is now owned by Diageo.
