Hundred Acre Morgan's Way Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Morgan’s Way was Jayson Woodbridge’s inaugural vineyard purchase for Hundred Acre. Originally named "Kayli Morgan Vineyard," the site was a tribute to both his daughter Morgan and the daughter of his former business partner. After buying out his partner, Jayson decided to rename the vineyard. Nestled at the base of Howell Mountain, just outside St. Helena and heading toward Calistoga, Morgan’s Way covers about nine acres. Though it appears relatively flat, the site features a clay-over-gravel formation with a slight rise in the center.
The unique soil and topography share some striking resemblances to Pétrus in Pomerol, a comparison made by Philippe Melka, Jayson’s first consulting winemaker. The vineyard, which was planted entirely with Cabernet Sauvignon in 1996, has produced wines that, in some vintages, carry a refined restraint and a hint of mineral sharpness—qualities reminiscent of Pétrus. The first wine produced from this vineyard was the 2000 Kayli Morgan Vineyard.
100 Points Jeb Dunnuck
One of the more perfumed, elegant wines, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Morgan's Way reveals a deep ruby/plum hue as well as incredible red and black fruit, new leather, pressed flowers, graphite, and loamy earth. It's full-bodied and powerful, yet also ethereal and weightless. As with all of Woodbridge’s wines, it’s going to age gracefully.
