The Glenfarclas scotch whisky distillery has been owned and operated by the same family for 130 years in the Speyside region of Scotland. No, it's not tiny by any stretch, but neither is the distillery a tentacle connected to some international "Kraken" of a corporation. It's a family affair.

Maybe that is part of the reason George Grant (the owner) and his crew avoid the practice of finishing whiskies in different casks before bottling. Instead of moving spirits around like a game of musical chairs, everything stays put in dunnage warehouses. Eventually, after enough time has passed, the relevant casks are selected and combined for a bottling run.

There is lots of sherry and fruit in this; Glenfarclas 12 was originally bottled for export and travel retail markets. In 2006, it was named the "Best Sherried Whisky" in the Single Malt World Cup, and in 2007 and 2008, it won Gold at the Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival.

This warm gold-colored whisky has a fresh aroma with dried cherries and prunes, oak, and Spiced Rum. Its flavor is good with more dried fruits, rancio, and delectable sweetness. She finishes long and smooth with a lingering bit of spice. 

At various competitions, this whisky has been awarded a couple of awards: the International Wine & Spirit Competition awarded Gold (Best In Class) and Gold in 2010 and 2020, respectively; the International Wine & Spirit Competition awarded Silver in 2015; International Spirits Challenge awarded Silver in 2019.

For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
