Don Julio 1942 Limited Edition Year of the Horse
"The Don Julio 1942 Limited Edition Year of the Horse is a limited-edition anejo tequila released for the 2026 Lunar New Year. It features the same smooth, award-winning tequila as the standard 1942 but comes in a commemorative bottle with a red-and-gold design that honors the Chinese Zodiac's Year of the Horse. The packaging blends traditional Mexican and Chinese cultural elements and is intended as a collector's item and gift. "
Don Julio is a Tequila brand and distillery in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco in Mexico. It is both highly regarded critically and one of the best-selling Tequila brands in the world – it is the eighth largest by volume in the United States and the 11th in Mexico.
The company is named for its founder, Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada, who began to distill Tequila in 1942, at the age of 17. His first commercial effort was the brand Tres Magueyes, which is the only other brand made at the Don Julio distillery, meaning bottles from both ranges carry the same NOM number (the Norma Oficial Mexicana number is found on every bottle of Tequila and is unique to a distillery or producer).
The Don Julio brand wasn't created until 1985, when his sons made a commemorative Tequila to mark their father's 60th birthday. The limited production was well received and led to the commercialization of Don Julio Tequila in 1987.
