This is Dierberg Vineyard's Pinot Noir. The balance to strike from this vineyard seems to be how to bring enough fruit flavor through ripening but not going so far as to broaden the texture such that a sense of freshness is lost (as we believe an early, warm vintage is at risk of doing). Sensible harvest timing along with judicious stem inclusion (25% on average) and less new oak assist in striking that balance of increasing supple qualities to support a vineyard that wants to produce broader textures with evoking the dark cherry fruit qualities the vineyard produces at its best. We believe 2014 did this exceptionally well.

Dierberg are the stewards of Drum Canyon Vineyard in the famous Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barbara. A dramatic hillside vineyard, Drum Canyon produces world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from ideal terroir under the winemaking direction of Tyler Thomas.
