Chateau Des Tours Vacqueyras 2016
Domaine des Tours is a French wine producer located in the southern Rhône Valley appellation of Vacqueyras. The estate is owned by Emmanuel Reynaud who also owns the famed Château Rayas in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Domaine des Tours is perhaps best known in relation to these top estates and produces similarly crafted red and white wines from Vacqueyras, Côtes-du-Rhône, and Vaucluse. The domaine's best fruit is used for Château des Tours Vacqueyras, a blend of around 95 percent Grenache with 5 percent Syrah.
Named a standalone appellation, or "Rhône Cru" in 1990, Vacqueras has a well-founded reputation for solid red wines, typical of the wider region.
Vacqueyras is an appellation for red, white and rosé wines from the vineyard-strewn area around the parishes of Vacqueyras and Sarrians in France's southern Rhône Valley wine region.
Until 1990, Vacqueyras was one of the Côtes du Rhône Villages, but the consistent quality of its wines (particularly the concentrated, powerful reds) earned it an upgrade to a full, independent AOC. The Vacqueyras appellation laws are similar to those of Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape – its neighbors to the immediate northeast and southwest, and its wines are also very similar if a little less refined.
