1995 Clarendon Hills Astralis Shiraz

Clarendon Hills is a South Australian winery, founded in 1990 by Roman Bratasiuk in the McLaren Vale wine region. Their vineyards are found within the sub-regions of Clarendon, Blewitt Springs and Kangarilla, home to some of the world's oldest vineyards.

Wines from Clarendon Hill are varietal expressions, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. They are arranged into a cru-like classification, influenced by Roman Bratasiuk's love for France.

The prestige cuvée, Astralis, is labeled as "Premier Grand Cru", and is made from old vines that were planted in 1920. Yields are extremely low, with only around 500 cases produced each year.

The estate was one of the first in Australia to exclusively bottle their wines as single-vineyard expressions, rather than blending wine sourced from multiple vineyards. These are found at a higher elevation than most vineyards in the region, which creates cooler nighttime temperatures to help retain acidity.

Grapes are all handpicked and then fermented in open-topped stainless steel tanks with the use of natural yeasts. Clarendon Hills exclusively use French oak barrels for maturation with a majority spending 18 months in oak prior to bottling.

Critical Acclaim

96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Fabulous nose of blackberry liqueur intermixed with blackberry, smoke, a touch of bacon, and some floral notes, this wine reveals aromatic nuances. The wine is phenomenally thick, rich, and as good as Shiraz can be in either the New or the Old World. There is no doubt there is a luxurious wealth of fruit, glycerin, and mass to a wine that is also remarkably well-balanced.

95 Wine Spectator

Deep, dark and juicy, this is a dense wine with crisp acidity to balance the solid blackberry, spice and hints of dill on the jazzy finish. Has a distinctive personality and impressive length--there's nothing else quite like it.

Driving down Ventura Blvd in Studio City in the 1960’s has something in common with today, Flask Fine Wine & Whisky- Flask first opened its doors to the public in 1962. Decades later and it still remains a respected fixture in the Los Angeles community.

We work directly with the wineries, distilleries and breweries to maintain a personal relationship with the creators of some of our favorite products.

We want to know their stories and how they produce bottles that fit into our unique collection. We make a point to keep our selection stocked with a wide variety, offering your classic Napa icons to your natural & organic wines.

We like to think of our whiskey and spirit section as more of a library where the rarest of bottles can be found.

We look forward to helping you find your next favorite bottle!
