Scarecrow is sourced from the vineyards of the legendary JJ Cohn (think Wizard of Oz) and the name pays tribute to him. The vineyards are equally remarkable and storied. When John Daniel Jr. convinced his neighbor JJ Cohn to plant these vineyards in 1945 he may have known the potential. The vineyards provided fruit for many spectacular wines including the early and magnificent Inglenook Cabernets, and later for many of the iconic Napa Cabs of more modern times. The pre-phylloxera St. George root stock and incredible old vines now produce the fruit for Scarecrow.

Critical Acclaim

Good bright ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, violet, mint and anise. Lush, seamless and voluptuous, in the style of the year. Very pure dark fruit and mineral flavors are given added sex appeal by bitter chocolate and espresso nuances. Finishes very long and suave, with supple tannins and outstanding early appeal. Will this close down in the bottle?

A riveting expression of complex Cabernet, this is rich, loamy and layered, with pure, detailed currant, blackberry and black licorice flavors and firm, gripping tannins. Gains and sustains on the finish. Cellar-worthy.

Depending on the bottle and destination, we use a combination of insulated foam box inserts, custom-fit air column bags, and heavy-weight cardboard shippers to prevent damage. For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
