Roagna Barolo Chinato 750ml

Roagna’s Barolo Chinato is a refined and aromatic take on this traditional Piedmontese fortified wine, seamlessly blending aged Barolo with a complex array of herbs and spices. The nose is intensely perfumed, revealing layers of dried cherry, orange peel, and rose petals, intertwined with notes of cinnamon, clove, and bitter alpine herbs. The palate is rich yet balanced, offering a harmonious interplay of sweet red fruit, warm spice, and earthy bitterness, all lifted by vibrant acidity. A long, lingering finish unfolds with nuances of licorice, cocoa, and balsamic undertones.

Already one of the most important producers of classic piemontese wines, this family also excels at this traditional staple of the region. Based on the heralded Pira Barolo wine that they make, similar to a vermouth, this is then carefully infused with a mix of herbs, flowers, barks, spices and quinine that remain a secret family recipe. Aged for many years prior to release the profile is at once potent and focused while also being well integrated and harmonious. Could be enjoyed as an aperitif or digestif and will keep in the fridge after opening for a long time.

The most famous grape in Piedmont is the noble Nebbiolo, which makes the long-lived Barolo and Barbaresco. There are plenty of Nebbiolo-based wines that are quite enjoyable in their youth, however, often produced in smaller, lesser-known regions such as Ghemme or Gattinara. Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles.

For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
