The Sonoma Coast AVA extends from San Pablo Bay to the border with Mendocino County. Sonoma’s largest AVA, the appellation is known for its cool climate and high rainfall relative to other parts of Sonoma County.

Close to the Pacific, with more than twice the annual rainfall of its inland neighbors, it’s warm enough to ripen wine grapes because most vineyards are above the fog line. Not surprisingly, pinot noir and chardonnay are the stars here, which benefit from the region’s cool temperatures and direct exposure to marine influences.

The estate for Summer Dreams Wines, formerly known as the historic Petersen Ranch (Petersen dairy), is located in the far reaches of Sonoma with a very large hill, almost like a tower, and hidden on one side of the wind-swept hill, amongst old oak trees is an old quarry where a small rail line used to move giant blocks of granite all the way from our Summer Dreams Ranch to the town of Sonoma, where the great stone buildings like the Court House, and other historic and prominent structures started to rise up in the prosperous little town in the late 1800’s and early 20th century.An amazing place for its beauty but even more so for the fruit produced in this quiet and kind of lonely place. Jayson and his son Cameron go there to dream about the future.

For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
