Le Petit Haut Lafitte Red 2019
This has caramel wafer and black cherry edging, gourmet, and contemporary, with real polish and a hugely successful sense of enjoyment, even at this early stage. A relatively new addition to the Cathiard stable of wines, this is a well-thought-out slice of some of the polish offered by its more prestigious sibling. From a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, aged in 20% new oak.

Intense dried cranberry and herbal nose with some toasty oak precede a rich but not heavy palate with plenty of tannic power and a long, dry finish. Needs two or three years to soften.

The 2014 Les Petit Haut Lafitte has an attractive blackberry, cedar and black olive-scented bouquet that unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well balanced with quite a saline, marine-influenced finish that lends this character. Enjoy this well-crafted Pessac-Léognan over the next five or six years.
