Kimsey Syrah 2012 Ballard Canyon
Inherent earthiness to the brooding and savory nose and the dusty, fine-grained tannins. Earth-driven, but by no means earth-bound. Seemingly endless fruit and floral notes jump out of the glass and dominate the palate lifting this wine to an astonishing height.
94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Moving to the Syrah, the 2012 Syrah Ballard Canyon has more than a passing resemblance to a young Cornas. Inky/purple in color, with fabulous blackberry, black raspberry, violets, crushed rocks and pepper, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, awesome purity and a layered, expansive texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. Cofermented with 4% Viognier and aged 17 months in 20% new French oak, enjoy this awesome Ballard Canyon Syrah over the coming decade.
The 2012 Syrah emerges from parcels interplanted with a number of different clones. Nuanced and expressive, the Syrah captivates all the senses with its extraordinary interplay of intense fruit and supporting minerality. Violets, mint, orange peer and black pepper add attractive savory overtones to a core of expressive dark blue/purplish fruit. This is a distinctly fresh, savory Ballard Canyon Syrah.
These are the first releases from Kimsey, and they are impressive. Winemaker Matt Dees has turned out a set of gorgeous and hugely promising Rhône-inspired reds. Vineyard guru Ruben Solorzano planted the Ballard Canyon property in 2006. Given the age of these vines, there is every reason to think there is plenty of future upsides here. As good as the 2012s are, the 2013s maybe even better. There is little doubt Kimsey is one of the most exciting new wineries in Santa Barbara County.

A wine list from Flask published in the early 1970s
Driving down Ventura Blvd in Studio City in the 1960’s has something in common with today, Flask Fine Wine & Whisky- Flask first opened its doors to the public in 1962. Decades later and it still remains a respected fixture in the Los Angeles community.
We work directly with the wineries, distilleries and breweries to maintain a personal relationship with the creators of some of our favorite products.
We want to know their stories and how they produce bottles that fit into our unique collection. We make a point to keep our selection stocked with a wide variety, offering your classic Napa icons to your natural & organic wines.
We like to think of our whiskey and spirit section as more of a library where the rarest of bottles can be found.
We look forward to helping you find your next favorite bottle!
