Collector's Item 1955 Bottled in Bond 20 Year Old 100 Proof

An incredibly rare bourbon from the Collector's Item series. This was distilled in the Fall of 1955 at a distillery registered DSP-KY-51, which has been known as both Greenbrier and Double Springs over the years. The original Greenbrier distillery was built in 1883 by a certain Old Grand-dad, R.B. Hayden, after whom Jim Beam's Basil Hayden's bourbon is also named. The distillery was purchased by the Schenley company during Prohibition, one of their many acquisitions as they loooked for full warehouses to bottle whiskey from using their medicinal license. The original distillery was closed, however the company, one of the largest post-Prohibition producers built a new one, where this was distillered in the brief period in which it was operational. 

Ben Ripey ran a bottling operation at Hoffman/Commonwealth before Julian Van Winkle III took it over, & the bourbon was bonded and bottled at 20 years old at the bonded warehouses at Hoffman/Commonwealth. Old Commonwealth is the site where Julian Van Winkle III bottled his legendary Old Rip Van Winkle brand. He purchased the distillery from Ben Ripy, who owned it at this time this bottle was produced.

For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
