Claude Manciat was a trailblazing winemaker in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy, France. Until the early 1980s, his wines were sold in bulk to négociants, but market shifts encouraged him to bottle under his own label, elevating the Mâconnais as a source of high-quality Chardonnay. Today, the estate is run by his daughter, Marie-Pierre Manciat, the fifth generation of vignerons in the family. She renamed the label in her father’s honor after its original name, "Clos Noly," became unavailable due to a Premier Cru designation.
The 23-hectare estate spans five villages and is sustainably farmed, with yields kept 20–30% below appellation limits. This ensures rich, powerful wines that express the region’s limestone-rich soils, a hallmark of Mâconnais terroir.
Marie-Pierre combines tradition with innovation, crafting wines that showcase the diverse terroirs of the region. Offering exceptional value, Claude Manciat’s wines are a testament to the growing recognition of Pouilly-Fuissé as a Premier Cru-worthy appellation.
Tasting Notes:
Ripe tropical nose with white flowers and bright calcaire; very compact and mineral-driven mid-palate with dried apricot and chalk; the finish is persistent and very clean
