Big Basin Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir 2013 - Flask Fine Wine & Whisky

Big Basin Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir 2013

A small winery founded in 1998 on a historic site next to Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The owners, Bradley Brown (also the winemaker) and his sister Wendy Brown, have restored this historic vineyard site using modern viticultural methods. The Estate Vineyard was planted in 2000 on a steep hillside where French immigrants once grew wine grapes over 100 years ago. Over 90% of the estate is being preserved in its natural state. A new winery was completed in 2003 on the site of the original 1890s house and winery structure which burned downed in the 1970s.

The Estate Vineyard now includes 2 acres of Pinot Noir. Both Swan and Mt. Eden selections were budded over some of the Syrah, with the first harvest in 2016. The Estate Vineyard is CCOF Certified Organic.

This is a compelling example of how very low-alcohol wines needn't be thin or overly green. This shows fennel and dill notes on the nose, along with cola, red cherry, cranberry, star anise and nutmeg. The palate's sizzling acidity carries zesty pomegranate and cranberry fruit, with touches of black pepper, pork fat, lavender, rosemary and lamb roast.

Yes, in most cases, the photograph on the product page is of the specific bottle for sale. If we have multiple quantities of the same item, the photo represents the general condition of all bottles under that SKU. We use premium, industry-standard materials to protect every shipment. Depending on the bottle and destination, we use a combination of insulated foam box inserts, custom-fit air column bags, and heavy-weight cardboard shippers to prevent damage. For wine, we recommend storing bottles on their side in a dark, vibration-free environment with good humidity, ideally between 55-60°F. Spirits like whiskey should be stored upright in a cool, dark place (60-70°F) away from direct sunlight to preserve their quality.
