Villa Loren Valpolicella Ripasso 2015

Valpolicella Ripasso is a fruity, complex red wine from the Valpolicella viticultural zone of Veneto, in northeast of Italy. Established as a DOC in 2010, the ripasso method is utilized for the production of Valpolicella Ripasso by combining leftover lees with standard Valpolicella wine for a second fermentation to create a more profound, more character-laden wine. 

Valpolicella wine generally leans towards the lighter end of the scale, so for centuries the local winemakers have employed various techniques to improve the depth and complexity of their cuvees, the passito and ripasso methods are both popular throughout Valpolicella. For passito, the grapes are dried out for weeks or even months prior to fermentation. During this time, their natural sugars and flavors become sufficiently concentrated to produce a deeper, more alcoholic wine. Recioto Della Valpolicella and Amarone Della Valpolicella both utilize this method and were established as DOCGs of Valpolicella in 2010. They are both typically used in the production of Valpolicella Ripasso.
