Opus One

View Full Description [+ Read More]

Opus One is a Napa Valley winery founded as a joint venture between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild, producing Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant red blends from the Oakville appellation. The estate grows Cabernet Sauvignon alongside the four other traditional Bordeaux varietals - Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec - on 170 acres of benchland soils. Each annual release, from the 2007 through the 2022 1.5 Liter Magnum, undergoes aging in new French oak barriques before bottling. Overture, the winery's second label available in both a non-vintage and 2021 release, is assembled from lots that do not enter the flagship blend, offering an earlier-drinking expression of the same Oakville fruit that defines the primary Opus One bottlings.
