Chartreuse
View Full Description [+ Read More]
Chartreuse is a French liqueur producer based in the Chartreuse Mountains of the French Alps, where Carthusian monks at the Grande Chartreuse monastery have produced herbal liqueurs since 1737 using a recipe of 130 botanicals that remains known only to two monks at any time. Chartreuse Green is distilled to 110 proof while Chartreuse Yellow is milder at 80 proof, both macerated from the same secret plant mixture. The Vegetal de la Grande Chartreuse represents the oldest documented form of the recipe. The VEP expressions, available in both Green and Yellow, are aged longer in small oak casks. The MOF Cuvee des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France and the rare vintage Voiron bottlings from the 1960s and 1980s represent the upper tier of the range.
