A new red from Zafeirakis, the king of the Limniona grape. A lighter affair than his other red, this organic wine is blue-fruited and brambly with light spicy floral notes and possesses fine tannins.
Thick-skinned and almost forgotten, the Limniona grape has gone from being a frontrunner in the Most-Likely-Grape-to-Go-Extinct competition... to Greece’s answer to Pinot Noir! Is the man responsible for this? Christos Zafeirakis. Based in the Tyrnavos appellation in the north-central part of mainland Greece, Zafeirakis has transformed the ancient grape of Limniona into a lithe and aromatic little wonder: deep aromas of Asian spices, exotic flowers, blackberry and black cherry fruit, atop a mouth-watering palate of herbs, black earth, spices, and a delightfully barky note. This is your new sub for Pinot, Nebbiolo, et al., and goes with everything on your table.
