Amrut is an Indian distiller, best known in export markets for its range of single malt whiskies, the first to be made in India. 

The company was founded in 1947, just before India gained independence. Initially, its business was focused on supplying liquor to the Indian military. Today, the company is based in Bangalore with its original distillery located nearby in Kambipura, but the company also bottles products in five other states of India.

Its single malt whisky range was first launched in 2004, produced from barley grown in the Himalayan foothills, around 1600 miles (2500km) away. Amrut's master blender estimates that one year of age in the company's warmer cellars is the equivalent of about three years in Scotland; in addition, around 12-percent of the spirit is lost each year to evaporation (the "angels' share"), compares with about 2 percent in Scotland. 

The core range includes standard and cask-strength versions of unpeated and unpeated malts, plus the part-peated Fusion. A wide range of limited edition expressions has also been released.

However, single malt accounts for only a small part of total production. Dark rum is also produced in two versions, an Indian cane rum and the Two Indies which is a combination of Caribbean and Indian rums. Brandy, vodka, gin and blended whisky, including the Silver Oak range, are also part of the portfolio.
