Viñedos Contino is widely considered one of the key producers of the Rioja wine revolution and has energetically championed the ‘château’ concept in the region whereby wines are made from a single estate. Viña del Olivo is their flagship wine and the 2014 is a blend of 85% old-vine Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from a single vineyard. It is rich, ripe and opulent, with delicious notes of black fruits, exotic spices, dark chocolate, tobacco and toasty oak. Now perfectly ready to drink, there is sufficient freshness and a fine weave of tannin that will allow this wine to age gracefully over the next 3-5 years.
